The best cordless vacuums give you the freedom to track down messes in your home regardless of how close they are to an outlet, fitting into spaces and under furniture that an upright vacuum can't. However, relying on a battery can lead to weaker suction and a smaller selection of features compared to traditional vacuum cleaners.
The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI Cordless Stick Vacuum
(available at Samsung for $999.00)
ran circles around the competition, earning our best overall ranking. It has great battery life, powerful suction, and a fantastic spread of attachments and features.
Though the Bespoke Jet AI is the best cordless stick vacuum we tested and the top performer overall it's also pretty expensive for most people's budgets. For something cheaper, the Tineco A10 Hero available at Amazon offers good suction, a removable battery, and bright LED lights to help find dirt. However, there are many great cordless vacuums in our guide for you to choose from.
Best Cordless Vacuum Overall
Samsung Bespoke Jet AI VS28C9762UK
Battery life: 17 minutes and 20 seconds on Jet mode
Dimensions: 9.8” x 44.9” x 8.3” (W x H x D)
Weight: 6.3 pounds
The Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is the best cordless vacuum we've ever tested. The Jet AI has a killer combination of attributes that checks all the boxes, making cleaning the floor a simple and easy process.
First, the Jet AI has a powerful motor and battery that translates to superior cleaning prowess. During testing, this vacuum picked up 90% of the fine dust and dirt we laid out for it on our testing carpets. The Dyson V15 captured 92%.
However, the Samsung Jet AI schools all its competitors when it comes to battery life. It can run up to 17 minutes on its highest settings—13% longer than its Dyson competitors.
The other major leg up the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI has is that it can empty itself. When you return the vacuum to its charging dock, you can press a button, and a secondary vacuum suctions out of the dust bin and places the contents into a self-sealing bag.
This is way more hygienic than how most bagless vacuums handle dirt. It means you avoid touching, smelling, or seeing anything unpleasant. It also eliminates dust plumes that occur when you empty other bagless vacuums.
Finally, we have to talk about just how user-friendly this vacuum is. The titular AI automatically adjusts the suction based on the dirt detected and the floor type. It also displays how much juice is left in the battery down to the second.
The Jet AI also comes with a ton of useful attachments. The main brush head has two different rollers to deal with both carpet and hardwood floors and has a set of LED lights to illuminate dark corners and under furniture. The telescopic wand is also a helpful cleaning tool for reaching high-up spots. It also helps make the vacuum more comfortable to use for taller people.
Overall, we think the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is a superb generalist. If you’re tired of cordless vacuums that are cumbersome to use or are just constantly dying on you, the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI is the one to buy.
The Gen5detect’s LCD screen shows how much battery life you have left.
Best Cordless Vacuum for Multiple Surfaces
Dyson Gen5detect
Battery life: 15 minutes on Boost (70 minutes on Eco)
Weight: 7.7 pounds
Dimensions: 50.2” x 9.8” x 10.87” (H x L x W)
The Dyson Gen5detect is a cordless vacuum with a modern home in mind. It comes with multiple brush heads to tackle every type of surface from hardwood to thick carpets.
During our lab tests, the Gen5detect’s battery and motor impressed us. Even at its highest setting, this vacuum ran continuously with no loss of suction for 15 minutes straight. In the cleaning tests, the Gen5detect picked up 87.5% of the dirt off our carpets in a single pass—25% more than the average cordless vacuum.
If you have pets, the Gen5detect’s Hair Screw Tool can clean mountains of hair without the risk of a tangle or clog.
The LG A949 is about more powerful suction and mopping to boot.
Best Cordless Vacuum Upgrade
LG CordZero A949KTMS
Battery life: ~17 minutes on Turbo mode (between both batteries)
Dimensions: 10.4" x 44.1" x 11.7" (W x H x D)
Weight: 7 pounds
The LG Cordzero A949KTMS is an all-in-one cordless vacuum cleaner. It comes with multiple attachments including a mini pet nozzle and a power mop tool. This means it can clean everything from hardwood floors to countertops easily.
During testing it picked up 81 percent of the testing dirt we laid out for it. In our battery shakedown, a single battery lasted about eight and a half minutes on the Turbo setting. The A949 comes with two batteries, one of which can charge in the included stand while the other is in use.
That stand is a huge selling point for the A949. It contains a secondary vacuum that emptied out the contents of the cordless vacuum’s dust bin and places the dust and debris into a self-sealing bag. That way, when you empty the bag, you never need to touch or smell anything unpleasant. It also prevents you from reintroducing allergens back into your home.
Aside from the auto-empty feature, the stand contains special compartments to store attachments to help keep you organized. Finally, the stand has a separate filter to help keep the air dust-free.
Overall, the LG Cordzero A949KTMS is a powerhouse of a floor cleaner.
The Dyson Gen5outsize has a fantastic battery life, making it a great option to clean large homes.
Best Cordless Vacuum for Large Spaces
Dyson Gen5outsize
Battery life: 30 minutes on Boost, 140 minutes on Eco (two batteries)
Weight: 8.6 pounds
Dimensions: 50” x 11.5” x 12.6” (H x L x D)
The Dyson Gen5outsize is for a household that has a ton of floor space. First off, the Gen5outsize proved to be a great cleaner in our lab tests. It comes with a Fluffy Optic head which excels at cleaning hardwood and a Digital Motorbar XL for carpets and other surfaces. Each of these heads picked up more than 80% of our testing dirt in a single pass, which is great for a cordless vacuum but not as good as our No. 1 pick, the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI.
Not only is the Gen5outsize great at cleaning, but it also has the stamina to match. This Dyson comes with two rechargeable batteries that will let you clean for up to 30 minutes on the Boost setting or over two hours on Eco. To top it all off, the Gen5outsize carries a 64-ounce dustbin which translates to more time cleaning and less time emptying.
The last thing we’ll shout out is the hair screw tool, which can deal with mountains of dog hair without getting tangles or clumps.
With highly impressive suction, this cordless vacuum packs a lot of value.
Best Value Cordless Vacuum
Tineco A10 Hero
Battery life: 7 minutes
Weight: 5.4 pounds
Dimensions: 43.3” x 8.3” (L x D)
The Tineco A10 Hero comes from the same people who brought us the Ecovacs robot vacuum series. That’s a lot to live up to, but the A10 makes its robot-vacuum cousin proud.
Covered by a 2-year warranty, the A10 Hero picked up 47% of the dirt we laid out for it. For the price point, this performance is more than impressive. Plus, the A10 has the endurance of higher-priced vacuums: around 7 minutes on the max settings and 14 minutes on regular. You can buy additional batteries and swap them in for even more cleaning time.
The A10 comes with a standard assortment of attachments, including a crevice tool, a mini-powered brush, and an upholstery brush. While none of these wowed us, we like the fact that the default brush head has bright LED lights to help us spot dirt and debris under furniture.
When you combine these aspects, this cordless vacuum cleaner’s great value makes it one of the best cordless stick vacuums available.
Battery life: 56 minutes on low / 8 minutes on max
Weight: 5.9 pounds
Dimensions: 39.75” x 11.75” x 10.125” (L x W x D)
The LG CordZero A939KBGS All-in-One is a technological marvel. It covers all your floor care needs. First, it has top-tier pickup performance. On our testing carpets, the CordZero picked up 90% of the dirt we laid out for it in a single pass.
It also comes with a mop attachment, making it truly an all-in-one cleaner. Our testing showed the mop is pretty good at spot cleaning.
While using the CordZero, we liked the LED lights on the mop attachment and the telescopic wand that extends for up to 45 inches of reach.
However, beyond the cordless unit itself, LG also packs a ton of tech into the charging base. It is freestanding, which means you can place this vacuum anywhere—no need to drill holes into your walls like some competitors require.
The dock also contains a secondary vacuum, which suctions out the dust bin in the vacuum and places the contents into a self-sealing bag. This method not only saves you time but also is way more hygienic than emptying the dust canister into the trash because it prevents dust plumes.
Finally, the dock has space for all your attachments and a spot to charge your spare battery. Not only are you less likely to lose your attachments, but you’re also more likely to use your specialized attachments, like your crevice tool, if they’re close at hand.
Overall, the LG CordZero All-in-One is a major upgrade for anyone tired of vacuums that constantly run out of juice or clutter their closet up. While it’s been upstaged by the newer model, the LG Cordzero A949KTMS, the A939KBGS was our former pick for the best cordless vacuum upgrade and is still a good choice, today.
Battery life: 16-minute run time on Jet mode (max setting), 120-minute run time on minimum across two included batteries for cleaning time
Weight: 6.1 pounds
Dimensions: 9.8" x 39.4" x 8.3" (W x H x D)
The Samsung Bespoke Jet was our previous No. 1 pick for the best cordless vacuum available, before being replaced by the newer Samsung Bespoke Jet AI. However, Samsung continues to sell the Bespoke Jet—and we still think it's a great cordless vacuum. It has superb cleaning power with a powerful battery and can self-empty into a freestanding dock.
It has a 16-minute run time on the max setting (Jet mode), which is just slightly shorter than the new Bespoke Jet AI's battery life (17 minutes 20 seconds) on the same setting.
Another difference between the Jet and the Jet AI is that the former comes with more accessories—including a helpful accessory cradle. We think the cradle takes up a lot of extra space with its clunky design, and that storing everything in the dock is better.
The Jet also comes with two extra batteries, whereas the newer AI only comes with one. Both batteries have the same amount of power.
The Dyson V15 Detect is the latest in a storied lineup of cordless stick vacuums. This time around, we found two huge upgrades: a dust-illuminating laser and a longer-lasting battery. Many companies often add gadgets and attachments to their vacuums to compensate for a lack of performance. However, the lab test shows that the V15’s technology enhances the cleaning experience.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, we should talk about cleaning performance. During our dirt pickup test, the V15 suctioned up about an average of 92% of the detritus we left out on our testing carpet. The V15 also has a long battery life—15 minutes on its max setting.
Based on battery life and cleaning prowess, the V15 is still a top contender even if it’s been deposed from its spot among the very best cordless vacuums we’ve tested. Its unique laser and sensor give it an edge. During testing, we found that the laser, which can be turned on and off, illuminates dirt under furniture and on floors much better than standard LED headlights. The V15 also has a sensor that gives you a readout of the particle sizes that the vacuum is picking up.
The V15 has the same smooth glide, sensitive trigger, and lightweight design as other Dyson vacuums.
Dyson announced that it would stop developing new corded vacuums because of how confident its R&D team was in the Dyson V10 Absolute. But, the details made us skeptical.
However, after spending time testing the V10, we found that its Absolute moniker is apt. The V10 comes with absolutely everything: a powered brush head that’s designed for hardwood floors, a motorized mini brush for cleaning upholstery, a soft brush for hardwood, a combination upholstery/bare floor tool, a crevice tool, a drive cleaner head, and a soft dusting brush for computers and delicate items. These all attach to a 5.6-pound, wall-mountable package, making it one of the lightest cordless vacuums on the market.
Without a doubt, the Dyson V10 puts all its tools to good use. In our testing lab, it picked up 89% of the dirt we left out for it.
It also dominated battery tests. On the low setting, it can run for 60 minutes, perfect for day-to-day maintenance. For intense cleaning jobs, the Absolute can run for 9 minutes on the highest setting.
If you haven’t noticed a trend, do so now: The Absolute’s downside is its absurdly expensive price tag. Still, if you want zero compromises in power or battery life, this is the cordless vacuum to buy.
The Tineco Pure One S15 Pet is a great cordless vacuum whether or not you want an upgrade.
During testing, the Tineco S15 proved itself to have powerful suction. It vacuumed up around 87% of the dirt we laid out for it on our lab’s carpets. That puts it in the same league as a Dyson vacuum and competitive with the best cordless vacuums we’ve seen.
Our major issue with the S15 is that it’s more unwieldy than other cordless vacuums in its price range. Tipping the scales at around 6.9 pounds, when fully loaded, makes it fatiguing to clean anything up high.
We weren’t sure what to make of the Dyson Omni-Glide when we first unpacked it in our labs. The design of the body suggests that it’s a hand vacuum, but it can also clean the floor like a regular cordless vacuum. This Dyson is somewhere in between and does an equally good job at cleaning floors as it does countertops.
Even with its heaviest attachments on, the Omni-Glide tips the scales at just around four pounds. This means you don’t break a sweat lugging it up the stairs or cleaning your car. You might even be able to do it in one charge. Our lab tests show that the Omni-Glide can run for about nine minutes on its max setting and about 18 minutes on regular.
After spending a few days cleaning with this Dyson, we think that it’s perfect for small apartments. The titular Omni-Glide brush head is just eight inches wide with a swivel joint that’s limber enough to twist around chair and table legs.
It’s powerful as well as flexible. During testing, it picked up 70% of the dirt we laid out for it, which is higher than the average of 57% across all brands we’ve tested. However, the Omni-Glide’s suction power is below average when it comes to the wide range of all Dyson cordless vacuums; these average around 85% in our dirt pick-up tests.
Battery life: 11 minutes on Boost Mode, 60 minutes on Eco Mode
Dimensions: 10.24" x 51.18" (W x H)
Weight: 8.8 pounds
Shark takes all the best bits from its other cordless vacuums and sticks them onto the Stratos. We love its DuoClean brush head that has two brushes: one is designed to clean hard floors and the other is for carpets. This means you can seamlessly transition from one floor type to another without needing to worry about changing heads or settings. Additionally, the Clean Sense IQ system detects dirt and automatically boosts power accordingly. In our tests, the Stratos was able to suction up 54% of the dirt we laid out for it, which places it in the middle of the pack. In an ideal world, we'd want that number to come in a little higher.
In general, cordless vacuums are slim enough to fit in tight spaces like under or behind furniture. Well, the Stratos takes this concept to the next level with its MultiFlex hinge three-quarters of the way up which makes it easier to maneuver. This feature sets it apart from all other competitors, and, frankly, allows it to bend over backward for you. It also allows it to fold up nicely so you can store it without taking up too much space.
Hi, I’m Jon Chan, the senior lab manager at Reviewed. I am the resident vacuum expert—I’ve tested hundreds of vacuums over the years, including everything from budget robot vacuums to upright vacuums. When it comes to cordless vacuums, I like models that provide excellent battery life and value.
The Tests

We create our own dirt to test on our vacuum test rigs.
When we test battery-powered vacuums, we’re looking for longevity, ease of use, and powerful suction. To test battery life, we charge each model for 24 hours, then run it at its highest settings, timing it until it stops working. If the vacuum doesn't meet its manufacturer's advertised claim about its total runtime, we note it.
What To Look For When Shopping For The Best Cordless Vacuum

We've spent countless hours testing and getting to know vacuums.
While most cordless vacuums don’t offer the deep-cleaning power of upright vacuums, they do have advantages, including maneuverability and convenience. Here are some other things to consider when purchasing a cordless vacuum:
Price
There’s a cordless vacuum for almost any budget. While some of the Dyson models come with a hefty price tag, they also come with Dyson technology. Meanwhile, others cost less but still clean well, such as our best value pick, the Tineco A10 Hero.
Battery
A cordless vacuum is only as good as its battery. Most of the models we reviewed had battery run times of more than 10 minutes on the high settings. Using your vacuum on high does drain a battery quicker, but vacuums will run longer on lower settings.
Not all batteries recharge at the same rate, either. When you’re on a roll cleaning, you don’t want to lose power and have to wait until the battery is ready to go again. To combat that, some of the best cordless vacuums come with an extra battery, which can be swapped out when your other battery dies.
Bin capacity
Cordless vacuums have smaller dirt bins than uprights, which is one reason some people prefer full-size vacuums. However, bin capacity on cordless vacuums varies wildly. Some of the models we tested hold almost a full quart of dirt, while others hold less than half a quart.
Attachments
It’s important to make sure your cordless vacuum comes with the tools you need. You may need to clean pet dander, vacuum dust from curtains and upholstery, or care for delicate hardwood floors. Whatever your needs, make sure you have the attachments to meet them.
What You Should Know About Cordless Vacuums
Credit:
Reviewed / Kyle Looney
Cordless vacuums are great for cleaning all sorts of spaces, including cars, since you don't have to worry about a cord to plug in.
Can Cordless Vacuums Replace Upright Vacuum Cleaners?
Generally, the best cordless vacuums work best as supplementary tools to be used between heavier cleanings, or in situations where a corded vacuum is too cumbersome. That said, if you’re willing to pay a higher price for the privilege, some of the best cordless vacuums can stand toe-to-toe with a full-sized model.
What’s the Difference Between Cordless Stick Vacuums and Hand Vacuums?
In many cases, the only difference between the best cordless stick vacuums and a hand vacuum is the cordless unit’s long extension, which allows the brush head to reach the floor. Although rare, some two-in-one–models come with a handheld mode that can be removed and used to clean without the floor extension—a real bonus when you're cleaning furniture or a flight of stairs.
